In keeping with its pivotal role supporting all global sports championships and events hosted by the State of Qatar, Aspetar – the world’s leading orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital – is providing medical support for the AFC U-23 Championship, taking place in Doha from 12-30 January 2016. The championship features 16 teams from the Asian Football Confederation, with the top three qualifying for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Aspetar provides medical services and support for the duration of the championship. Medical staff will be present on-site at the multiple venues and stadiums in use during the championship. The team from Aspetar includes 40 sports medicine experts, emergency medical technicians and nurses all providing a full range of medical care and support.
On-site first-aid, intervention and support for serious injuries, and medical advice for the participating teams are included in the services being provided by Aspetar.
Since 2007, Aspetar has provided comprehensive, world-class medical care to the Qatar national team through the National Sports Medicine Programme (NSMP). Through this programme, the hospital provides dedicated sports medicine staff to supervise the team year-round, including sports medicine experts and doctors, physiotherapists, massage therapists, nutritionists, rehabilitation experts and more.
In addition, Aspetar is a strategic partner to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and was recently praised at the fifth AFC Medical Conference that took place in New Delhi for its role in developing sports medicine regionally and internationally.
The hospital provides its medical and scientific capabilities to enable athletes to train and compete at the highest possible level. It has become a destination of choice for the provision of medical services for international sport events, athletes and clubs from around the world.
