Dr. Hakim Chalabi

Dr Hakim Chalabi completed his medical training at the University Hospital Cochin in Paris in 1993 before specialising as a Sports Medicine Physician.

Dr Chalabi is a highly motivated Sports Medicine Expert with a wealth of experience of more than 20 years in multiple International Sport events at the highest level and premiership games.

Prior to joining Aspetar, he was the Medical Director for Paris Saint-Germain Football Club, where he was responsible for the medical care of several of their key players, including: Ronaldinho and Pauleta. From 1995 Dr Chalabi worked as a Sports Medicine Specialist and, subsequently, Assistant CMO for the renowned “Clinique du Sport”, one of the first sports specialist Hospital facilities in Europe.

From November 2009 to May 2014 he was Acting Chief Medical Officer and Executive Director of the National Sports Medicine Programme in Aspetar, Dr Chalabi was also Chief Medical Officer for the Algerian National Team who travelled to South Africa for the FIFA 2010 World Cup.

He was also Chief Medical Officer for the Algerian and Ivory Coast National Teams during the FIFA 2014 World Cup in Brazil and in September 2014 he was appointed as Assistant Director General for International Medical Affairs and Programmes & Centres of Excellence in Aspetar.

Not only does he play an important role in improving the medical care and prevention of injuries in athletes, he was actively involved in research and education and specially from 1993 to 1995 as a Research Physician in The French Physiology for Aerospace Medicine (Brétigny, France).

The main research areas were Exercise Physiology in Elite Athletes, including energetic, VO2, lactate, biomechanics, strength conditioning, weight training, electro stimulation, nutrition, recovery, hormones and doping, blood analysis, immunology, cardiology, training strategy and modeling, performance enhancement. The research projects were aimed at diagnosis, prevention and treatment of fatigue and overtraining.

  4. Alterations in physiological and psychological performance during Ramadan
