Doha 7 April 2015- The goal keeper of Ivory Coast men’s senior National Football Team, Sylvain Gbohouo underwent surgery at Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Doha, Qatar.
Gbohouo had suffered a meniscus injury earlier this year, which is a common injury in football players. The surgery was performed by Dr Philippe Landreau, Chief of Surgery department at Aspetar.
Sylvain will now start a rehabilitation programme in order to come back as soon as possible to the field of play. The injury had caused him to miss already 3 months of playing with his team TP Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Commenting on his experience at Aspetar right after undergoing the surgery, the Ivory Coast goal keeper said:
"Everything is highly professional at Aspetar. I have visited several medical centres around the world, but the care that I have received at Aspetar is completely unique. It’s all in the detail that makes you feel the excellence of an institution".
Sylvain Gbohouo was part of the men’s senior team that participated in the 2014 FIFA World Cup but did not make an appearance. He was Ivory Coast's starting goalkeeper at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea in January / February this year as they went all the way to the final. However, the injury sustained in the semi-final against the Democratic Republic of Congo saw him miss out on the final match in favour of veteran Boubacar Barry.
