Aspetar Leads Medical Support for Qatari Athletes at Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games

Doha, Qatar: 9^th September 2026

A multidisciplinary medical team from Aspetar, Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, is leading the medical contingent supporting the Qatari delegation at the 20th Asian Games "Aichi-Nagoya 2026", which runs in Japan from 19 September to 4 October.

The 28-strong Qatari medical team comprises three sports medicine physicians, 15 physiotherapists, and 10 sports massage therapists, all under the direct supervision of Aspetar sports medicine physician Dr Adnan Saltani, Chief Medical Officer of the Qatari delegation for the Asian Games.

Aspetar's team operates a dedicated medical clinic at the delegation's accommodation village, while its experts are also deployed across competition venues to ensure immediate and comprehensive medical coverage for all 427 members of the Qatari delegation. This includes 243 athletes (184 men and 59 women) competing in 26 sports across 32 disciplines.

Aspetar officials confirmed that the hospital will remain a key medical partner for the Qatari delegation throughout the Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, delivering specialised care to athletes before and during competition to enhance their physical readiness and support peak performance on the field of play.

As part of its involvement, Aspetar will deliver integrated sports medicine and primary healthcare services, including injury assessment, management and rehabilitation, alongside recovery and performance support for all athletes. The medical team will provide emergency medical care and coordinate closely with local medical facilities, while offering continuous health monitoring for athletes and anti-doping education to ensure compliance and protect the wellbeing of Team Qatar throughout the competition.

Dr Adnan Saltani, Chief Medical Officer of the Qatari delegation, added:

Logistically, the medical operation is fully ready. Our specialised sports medicine clinic travels with the delegation, equipped with highly skilled physicians, physiotherapists and sports massage therapists. This year, all athletes and participants must hold a valid Anti-Doping Education and Learning (ADEL) certificate, and our team supports compliance on the ground. Our role is not limited to competition venues; it extends to the hotels, where we provide continuous care, recovery services and rapid response capabilities to ensure athletes remain ready throughout the Games.

In the lead-up to the tournament, Aspetar conducted necessary medical screenings for athletes, delivered medical and nutritional consultations, and provided guidance on recovery, sleep management and jet-lag adaptation, alongside preventive support to maintain the health of delegation members.

Aspetar will also play a pivotal role in supporting the medical staff accompanying the delegation in Nagoya. The hospital will remain on standby to provide specialised remote medical consultations, contribute to the review of medical reports, test results and diagnoses, and offer expert medical opinions as needed, ensuring Qatari athletes receive the highest standard of medical care throughout the competition.

This support underscores the ongoing partnership between Aspetar and the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), and the hospital's commitment to leveraging its medical and scientific expertise in service of Qatari athletes at major continental and international sporting events.
