Doha, Qatar: 10th February 2025 - In celebration of Qatar National Sports Day, Aspetar has announced the launch of a new online platform dedicated entirely to sports supplements. The platform in English and Arabic aims to provide comprehensive and accurate information about supplements that help athletes improve their performance and maintain their health.

The platform offers detailed information about various supplements, including their benefits, usage instructions, and recommended dosages. It also provides access to consultations with sports nutrition experts, helping athletes make informed decisions about optimal and safe supplement use.

Additionally, the platform includes assessment tools that allow users to determine their individual nutritional needs and choose the supplements that suit them best. An educational blog publishes articles and research on the latest developments in sports supplements.

The launch of this platform coincides with the country’s National Sports Day celebrations, reflecting Aspetar’s commitment to supporting sports enthusiasts in practicing in a healthy and safe environment, and aiding professional athletes in competing at their highest potential. Through this platform, Aspetar aims to be a key partner in athletes’ sports journeys by providing the necessary knowledge and support to enhance their performance and health.

30% of Athletes in Qatar Use Supplements

Studies conducted by Aspetar experts indicate that more than 30% of athletes residing in Qatar use supplements, based on data obtained from a survey conducted by the hospital’s nutrition experts in 2019.

While studies show that 12-58% of supplements sold in the UK, Europe, and the USA contain substances banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Aspetar’s platform offers registered athletes and serious amateurs in Qatar updated advice and information on the use of prohibited substances and anti-doping tests. Aspetar recommends only using products that have been third-party tested through a recognized sports quality assurance program.

Aspetar’s Distinguished Participation in Promoting Public Health

Reflecting Aspetar’s commitment to actively contributing to community health improvement, the hospital is participating in the state’s National Sports Day events by offering a range of medical and health activities for participants. These activities will take place at Pitch 11 inside Aspire Park and include:

•       Free medical services for participants at Aspetar’s booth, including general medical consultations and health guidance on healthy lifestyles and proper nutrition, as well as psychological and sleep consultations.

•       Health assessments for participants, where Aspetar experts will conduct evaluations to determine their fitness levels, enabling them to develop plans to improve their health.

•       Workshops and educational lectures aimed at raising awareness about the importance of sports in injury prevention, promoting general health, and preventing chronic diseases.

Guidelines for Physical Activity

Aspetar experts advise sports practitioners and enthusiasts to benefit from the “National Physical Activity Guidelines” for sports and physical activity practitioners in Qatar, issued by Aspetar in collaboration with various state entities.

The “National Physical Activity Guidelines” provide doctors and other healthcare providers with a set of scientific tools on how to use physical activity as a prescription for prevention and treatment in a simple, quick, and effective manner. They also help manage more than 40 chronic health conditions that are most common among healthcare practitioners.

The updated version of the National Physical Activity Guidelines is based on the summarized scientific evidence from the first edition issued in 2014, which was widely disseminated across various sectors of the state. It significantly contributed to raising awareness in various aspects of sports and healthy lifestyles, becoming a practical reference and an easy and immediate source of information based on the latest scientific evidence while considering the local context. This guide will benefit practitioners, doctors, educators, and individuals who wish to engage in regular physical activity.

Qatar National Physical Activity Guidelines

The guidelines available on Aspetar’s website provide new scientific information aimed at improving health, particularly concerning physical activity and sedentary behaviors based on scientific evidence. They emphasize the importance of sports and increasing physical activity to enhance health quality. These guidelines cater to all segments of Qatari society, including children, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic diseases. They offer recommendations for exercising at various times and occasions. Developed and periodically updated by Aspetar over many years, these guidelines serve as a fundamental reference for healthcare professionals and community health supervisors.
