The hospital will utilize its expertise to provide top-level medical services during the championship as part of the National Sport Medicine Programme. Services include on the ground sports medicine division and orthopaedic surgery division who will be able to provide immediate care to the athletes, in addition to ambulances and a comprehensive mobile clinic, which will all be placed adjacent to the Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium, the venue hosting the championship.
On the side-lines of the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships, Aspetar will also be organizing “The Health of the Paralympic Athlete” Medical Symposium on 24th October 2015, an event that will be held in collaboration with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the International Sports Medicine Federation.
The symposium will specifically discuss the medical needs of para-athlete and physically active people with impairments. Topics that will be addressed include the IPC’s vision of para-athlete health, travel issues for the para-athlete, thermoregulation in para-athletes- challenges and solutions, anti-doping issues for the para-athlete and more.
Aspetar is the first specialised Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in the region and provides sports medicine and medical treatment service for elite athletes from around the world. Furthermore, as part of the National Sport Medicine Programme, Aspetar collaborates with clubs, federations and the Qatar Olympic Committee, in which it provides medical services to athletes participating in major sport events held in Qatar.
