Aspetar to Provide Health Care to World Volleyball Championship Athletes

Qatar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital has signed an agreement with Qatar Volleyball Association to be one of the main sponsors of the Men’s & Women’s Club World Volleyball Championship, scheduled to take place at Al Gharafa Club from December 14-21. In addition to being one of the main sponsors, Aspetar will coordinate all medical services for the event, including sports medicine coverage for the athletes participating in the championship through the National Sports Medicine Programme. Mr. Faraj Muftah Al-Abdulla, Head of the Championship said: “Aspetar is FIFA accredited Medical Centre of Excellence and is known internationally as a leading facility employing some of the world’s top sports medicine practitioners. We know Aspetar takes its involvement in major sporting championships very seriously and we could not be happier to have Aspetar involved in our tournament.” Eight men’s clubs will participate in the men’s event, including 5 continental Champion teams. Six champion women’s teams will participate in the women’s event, also including 5 continental Champions. Dr. Mohammad Al Maadheed, Director General of Aspetar spoke of the importance of supporting the Men’s & Women’s Club World Volleyball Championships: “We are proud to support these world championships and look forward to providing support to ensure all participants are well supported with world-class medical care and advice throughout the tournament.” Aspetar, through the National Sports Medicine Programme, has been working over the past 4 years in partnership with the Qatar Olympic Committee and Sporting Clubs and National Federations in developing the infrastructure and medical support to Qatari athletes, thereby seeking to provide them with best-practice sports medical services. This has ensured consultants at Aspetar and practitioners within Clubs and Federations have experience treating injuries in a variety of sports at the highest level. 2010 is the third year in a row that Qatar has been entrusted by the International Volleyball Association to host the Men’s & Women’s Club World Volleyball Championships, further proof of the nation’s growing capacity to host major international sporting events.
