Doha, Qatar (January 19, 2011): French track and field star, Bouabdellah Tahri, has returned to his preferred choice of rehabilitation sanctuary, Aspetar, to undergo a grueling period of therapy in the run up to his anticipated participation in the London 2012 Olympic Games this summer. The European holder in 3000m steeplechase picked up a leg injury (Tibia) in Paris four months ago and, following surgery, has chosen Aspetar (Qatar Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Hospital) to continue his training and start his specific rehabilitation regimen where a medical team is geared up to spur his recovery and help Tahri regain maximum competitive potential. Earlier in 2011, the Frenchman enrolled himself at Aspetar to receive sports science and sports medicine-related assistance. This time however, stakes are high as the athlete sets his eyes on glory at the Olympics. Aspetar’s medical team in turn has extended a personalized treatment program to help Tahri achieve his ambitious goal Dr. Bruce Hamilton, Aspetar chief of Sports Medicine, said:

“Bouabdellah was treated in Aspetar in 2011, and has returned for further management of his left leg problem that plagued him throughout last year. We are making sure that he receives intensive medical physiotherapy and sports science services during his time at Aspetar in the lead up to the Olympics”.

Tahri, who, in addition to 3000m steeplechase, also competes on 3000m and 5000m distances, said: “I think that Aspetar is the ideal place for me to prepare for the next Olympic Games. I have already prepared here before for the world championships”. The Games of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Olympiad are set to be held in London from 27 July to 12 August, 2012.

“It is a challenge. The Olympics this year will coincide with the Holy Month of Ramadan and make it harder for me. But I am determined to win a medal in London and follow my religious belief at the same time. I plan to fast during training sessions and skip fasting during the actual competitions. It is difficult because it will be summer, when the heat and thirst levels are high,” said Tahri.

Tahri has a proven track record with the French team with over 45 participations and has won seven international medals (Such bronze medal in the 2009 World Championship), set two European and four French records, and appeared in seven world finals and 15 championship titles in France in all categories and already participate at 3 Olympic Games (2000, 2004, and 2008).
