For the first time ever in Qatar the Aspetar Surgery department has introduced a new surgical procedure for patients with arthritis of the hand Patients suffering from advanced arthritis of the basal thumb joint now have the option of total joint replacement surgery. This is important as arthritis of the basal thumb joint is the most common arthritis in the hand and arm, and to date the techniques used to treat this condition involved surgeries that leave the patient with limitation of motion and strength. By using a prosthesis, the joint function is restored and full mobility can be achieved even after surgery.  Artificial joints in the hand may help to:

1. Reduce joint pain
2. Restore or maintain joint motion
3. Improve the look and alignment of the joint(s)

Improve overall hand function This surgical procedure is added to the current portfolio of biologic joint preservation and restoration that is already implemented by our surgical department.
