(Doha: May 22, 2011) Liverpool player Milan Jovanovic describes Aspetar, Qatar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, as the best global health Clinic that provides all the needs of sports medical treatment to the athlete and to maintain his fitness at the same time.
The Serbian player Jovanovic assured at the press conference today that the Aspetar has great potential; all the amenities and treatment of the athlete are available. He also added that Aspetar provides services at the highest level.
"I think that Qatar has all the credentials to impress the world during the hosting of World Cup 2022, and that it’s a wonderful opportunity to draw the attention of the world.”
For his part, Abdul Rahman Al-Qahtani, Executive Director of the National Program of Sports Medicine, said that Aspetar is attracting further more sports stars from all over the world, and Jovanovic is one of those stars who recognizes the prestige offered by aspetar.
Al-Qahtani also commented, "The influx of a number of stars in Aspetar, confirms that we are on track to achieve our goals by becoming leaders in sports by 2015, and prompts us to make further efforts to achieve this goal.”
Liverpool striker, and Serbian international, Milan Jovanovic has undergone successful surgery on a knee injury at Aspetar, Qatar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, under the supervision of Dr. Nibusa Popovic.
Last month, while training with Liverpool, Jovanovic injured the lateral cartilage in his left knee and, for the second time, turned to Aspetar and Dr. Popovic for the surgery. Pronouncing the operation a success, Professor Popovic said: “Jovanovic suffered the injury late in the season, fortunately, so giving him a greater chance of making a full recovery by the time next season begins. He will leave Aspetar in a few days to continue his convalescence and, after around five weeks; he will be able to resume light training."
Jovanović said he chose Aspetar again because of how pleased he was with his treatment here last year, having a cyst removed from the same cartilage.
But he also highlighted the hospital’s growing international reputation among his fellow English Premier League players, such as Chelsea’s Jose Bosingwa and Everton duo Tim Cahill and Phil Neville, who have all been treated here.
The Serbian then took the opportunity to pay tribute to what he called "the high standard of the medical staff of Aspetar and the wide range of facilities on offer to help top level athletes be treated for, and recuperate from, injury.”
Jovanović, who turned 30 last month, joined Liverpool from Belgian side Standard Liege in July 2010. He represented his country in last year’s World Cup Finals in South Africa, scoring the only goal of the game in Serbia’s historic win over Germany.
The Liverpool striker said he had been visited by a number of sports officials and personalities during his stay, including two of his countrymen currently based in Qatar, coaches Milan Raivić and Bora Milutinović.
