Dr. Kate Yung

Associate Director of Sports Medicine at the Hong Kong Sports Institute

Kate Yung is a physiotherapist, strength and conditioning coach, and researcher specialising in high-performance sports. She is currently the Associate Director of Sports Medicine at the Hong Kong Sports Institute, overseeing more than 20 sports and over 1600 athletes while leading the development of sports medicine, nutrition, and psychology within the Institute. Before this role, Kate led science and medicine innovations at a football club in Hong Kong and previously worked with a professional football club in Australia as a physiotherapist. In 2023, she completed her PhD in Australia, focusing on methodologies and frameworks to enhance decision-making quality in return-to-sport (RTP) scenarios. Kate has multiple publications on RTP decision-making, particularly from a complex systems perspective and using machine learning. Additionally, she is passionate about education and continues contributing to teaching and research. She also contributes to international research projects, such as examining return-to-performance strategies, using machine learning to support decision-making, and developing key performance indicators for sports practitioners.
