The session titled “Complete Concussion Care: From Club to Country” will be moderated by Louis Holtzhausen MD, PhD Sports Medicine Physician at Aspetar, and Jon Patricios MD, Sports Medicine Physician, Director of Waterfall Sports Orthopaedic Surgery in Johannesburg and founder and Director of Sports Concussion South Africa.

Dr Holtzhausen & Dr Jon Patricios, and their guests – Dr Leigh Gordon, Dr Raouf Rekik, and Dr Carolyn Emery – will talk about the current international consensus guidelines and best practice; rugby as the leading sport in concussion care from community to international level; real-life successes and challenges in implementing best practice concussion care in a professional football (soccer) league and team; research examining concussion prevention strategies across multiple prevention targets in youth sport; and the Aspetar Sport Concussion Program.

Aspetar Sport Medicine Collection is a two-volume limited edition book of more than 1400 pages; Volume 1 focuses on topics in Sport Science, Medicine of Sport, and Exercise and Lifestyle Medicine, and Volume 2 addresses management of sports injuries of the upper and lower extremity. Our editor-in-chief, Prof. Dr. Nebojsa Popovic and his co-editors carefully curated the best 200 Aspetar Sports Medicine Journal papers written by more than 300 international experts. The selected papers are organised through sections and chapters like a classic textbook of Sports Medicine.

We launched the Aspetar Sport Medicine Collection Online Forum Series to provide FREE access to the latest evidence-based Sports Medicine and Science information covered in the two volumes to an international audience of clinicians, coaches and athletes.

Each month, starting in November 2020 until the FIFA World Cup in November 2022, the respective Chiefs of Chapters will be discussing different topics related to the 24 chapters of the Aspetar Sports Medicine Collection. We will ‘unlock’ one section of the Aspetar Sports Medicine Collection each month, making it available for FREE download.

The online forum discussion will be recorded and shared on Aspetar’s YouTube channel www.youtube.com/Aspetar.
