Doha 23 April 2015- Aspetar, through Healthy Lifestyle Programme (HLP), is launching its 2015 Step into Health (SIH) campaign in Malls this year aiming to help Qatar’s Community to remain fit despite the summer heat. By offering opportunities for physical activities performed indoors. This year’s campaign promises to motivate the Community to walk more and experience the invaluable benefits of a healthy lifestyle. This initiative objective is to engage the people of Qatar in a self-managed lifelong programme based on a moderate amount of daily healthy activity; aims to encourage each person to walk 10,000 steps and more a day in a non-competitive, recreational and social approach.
Under this campaign, Health Promoting Malls (HPM) will offer people a range of opportunities for physical activities indoors as well as a comfortable walking environment.
According to the global and local standards, the minimum, daily requirement of physical activity is at least 30 minutes, as one single period or isolated as 3 periods of 10 minutes. According to the individual’s target (e.g. weight loss), the total weekly workout period could be doubled.
SIH Team will continue managing health events for public in collaboration with the following malls on the dates shown: Hyatt Plaza Mall - April 25th, City Centre Mall - May 2nd, Ezdan Mall - May 16th and Lagoona Mall - June 13th.
It is worth noting that the SIH Team already supports Hyatt Plaza Walking Club, created in 2013, by making every last Saturday of each month a day of health activities with Aspire Active instructors and health measurements by Aspetar nurses. The newly-founded Ezdan Mall Walking Club, also supported by SIH, will be launched on May 16th at the public health event.
All activities will be overseen by health professionals and supported by student volunteers from the Sport Science Department of Qatar University , all dedicated to increase the number of participants desiring to improve their healthy lifestyle through physical activity.
