Aspetar Qatar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, hosted a Sports Groin Pain Rehabilitation Meeting designed to share knowledge on what has been described as ‘the final frontier of sports medicine’.
The focus of the meeting, the first of its kind anywhere in the world, was primarily to discuss groin injuries received through sporting activities and a sharing of knowledge on injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. It underlines Aspetar’s continued commitment to research and cooperation with sports medicines specialists from around the world.
Recent research shows that groin injuries are most commonly sustained by footballers, with one study showing 11% of all players suffering from such injuries in some form at one point.
The meeting was attend by Aspetar representatives and world renowned specialists including: Associate Professor Per Holmich MD – Associate Research Professor, University of Copenhagen; Kevin Sims PHD – Cricket Australia Case and Rehab Manager, Cricket Australia Centre of Excellence Holly Silvers PHD – Director of Research , Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Research Foundation; Anthony Hogan PHD – Groin specialist from Adelaide, South Australia.
Anthony Hogan PHD, describes groin injuries as “the last frontier of sports medicine. Difficult to diagnose and manage it is the ultimate challenge to our knowledge, clinical and problem solving skills.”
Commenting on the meetings, Aspetar CEO Dr. Khalifa Al Kuwari said: “We are delighted that Aspetar has been able to host this Sports Groin Pain Rehabilitation Meeting. Dr. Khalifa Al Kuwari added: “Groin injuries continue to have a major impact with many athletes having their playing capacity reduced and in some extreme cases ending their careers prematurely by this type of injury. The outcome of the meeting will be to issue a consensus statement and a commitment to continue to further share our research”
