Aspetar once again demonstrated its commitment to becoming a leader in sports medicine by 2015 by partnering with the prestigious 5th Advanced Course in Knee Surgery held recently in Val d'Isère, France.
The event, which took place from February 2nd -7th , saw international speakers and delegates participate in a range of lectures, video sessions, case studies, roundtables, and interactive discussions designed to further current concepts and guidelines for daily knee treatment and care.
A number of Aspetar experts were present at the event, including Dr Nebojsa Popovic, Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr Emad Almusa, Consultant Radiologist, and Dr Juan Manuel Alonso, Sports Medicine Physician. Additionally, Chief of Surgery at Aspetar, Dr Philippe Landreau, was co-director of the summit.
“Knee pain and injuries are extremely common in athletes and we at Aspetar recognise the importance of discussing the latest approaches to surgery. Bringing together leading experts from across the globe, including France, UK, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Italy and Australia, the conference served as a platform to engage some of the world’s greatest minds in the field of knee surgery,” said Dr Landreau.
The comprehensive sessions were divided into eight topics. The topics, specifically chosen for this year’s summit included, ‘Imaging for knee surgeons’, ‘How to manage menisci lesions’, ‘Update on ACL reconstruction’, and ‘Athlete’s knee overuse’.
Dr Khalifa Al Kuwari, Director General of Aspetar, commented on the partnership, saying,
“This conference occurs biennially and it is now in its fifth edition. This year, we were the main partners of the summit. Part of Aspetar’s mandate is to further sports medicine research and education, so it was fantastic being able to join hands with this prestigious conference once again”.
