Every patient encounter is an opportunity to deliver important health messages. This is not only done during a consultation, but also by encouraging patients to read further, watch a video or attend a lecture.
Supported by the Aspetar Patient and Community Education Oversight Committee and two working groups (material review working group; translation review working group), we assist departments to develop and translate evidence-based and culturally sensitive athlete health education material.
We are currently using hand-outs and publications, lectures, the Aspetar Sports Medicine Journal, our website, and social media to deliver patient and community education. We support education opportunities for the local community focusing on the health benefits of physical activity and exercise. Patient and community education is coordinated and planned in an integrated way, ensuring an evidence-based approach of high quality, clear and relevant messages.
As the new patient portal will be launched soon, we collaborate with the different departments to make sure patient material and tools to support shared decision making are available on the portal to support our patients in making informed decisions, being an active participant in their recovery process and staying healthy in general.
